Gracias por Escucharme….

By: Brittany Bromfield, Community Engagement Facilitator for StoryCorps Atlanta

“Gracias por escuchar mi experiencia” says one participant who just  finished recording her first StoryCorps interview.  María, a parent recruited to do an interview with StoryCorps, recalls childhood memories growing up in Mexico then coming then coming to the U.S. with her husband for a new life. María ended her StoryCorps interview feeling relieved and happy that she shared her life experiences with someone willing to listen.

This year, StoryCorps Atlanta will to record the stories of migrant farm workers in South Georgia for three days. Through activities like this and local partnerships (YoSoyM, Galeo, LaAmistad, Los Niños Primero, The LAA), StoryCorps makes possible for Latino families to share meaningful conversations with their loves ones, to feel empowered, to know that their story matters, and to have an opportunity to tell history through their lens.

Stories can be recorded in Spanish, English, or in whichever language the participants feel most comfortable.  Brittany and Diana, the story facilitators are fully bilingual.  The Regional Manager is Daniel Horowitz García.

StoryCorps Atlanta is located at the Atlanta History Center: 130 West Paces Ferry Road NW. StoryCorps records every Tuesday and Saturday.
